RWC UK Joins the BIM Revolution

BIM utilises the latest 3D modelling and information management system to provide a standardised system bringing together all of the information about every component of a building, in one place and permits integration of different aspects of the design more effectively.

The Construction Industry Council (CIC) has been a prime mover in developing and leading this programme with the Government and has put in place a number of industry focused programmes to assist the supply chain to gear up to the Government’s mandate that public sector centrally procured construction projects will be delivered using BIM by 2016.

Manufacturers therefore need to produce BIM objects, which include 2d and 3d drawings and detailed specifications of their products.  The objects can then be downloaded and used within the BIM software packages to support architects and specifiers with designs that take into account all aspects of the building fabrication.  The result is better designed systems with fewer on site contingency measures needed which also reduces costs.
