NEW PART G LEGISLATION EFFECTIVE APRIL 2010

A new edition of Part G (Sanitation, hot water and water efficiency) of the Building Regulations for England and Wales comes into force in April 2010, requiring that baths in new build homes be fitted with a protective device, such as a thermostatic mixing valve (TMV), to limit the temperature of hot water at the bath outlet to a safe maximum. Similar regulations have been in place in Scotland since 2006.

Reliance Water Controls offer a range of TMV2 approved TMVs that meet the installation requirements of the Part G amendments.

CAREMIX THERMOSTATIC TAPS AT HEALTHCARE ESTATES

Reliance successfully launched its new range of Caremix® TMV3 Thermostatic Taps at the recent Healthcare Estates 2009 show in Harrogate.

Our Caremix® range of thermostatic taps incorporate thermostatic technology approved to TMV3 and the D08 specification to control the temperature of hot water in healthcare bathrooms.  As Reliance thermostatic mixing valves use a single piece cartridge for the temperature sensitivity and control, it was possible to build this into a tap body.  Use of the cartridge style technology throughout the tap range means that stocking spares and maintenance are easy and straightforward.

RECENT NEWS

GOVERNMENT COMMITS TO HOT WATER SAFETY

Reliance Water Controls welcomes the commitment by the Government to hot water safety in new-build housing, as announced in its ministerial statement (Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Iain Wright,
13 May 2009).  Regulations have been laid down that amend Part G of the Building Regulations addressing sanitation, hot water safety and water efficiency in new-build homes in England and Wales which will come into effect in April 2010

Reliance has been a key campaigner to change the legislation for many years through its support of charities such as the Childrens Fire and Burn Trust, and its association with the TMVA and the Hot Water Burns Like Fire Campaign.

Hot bath water is the number one cause of severe scalding injuries among young children and for scalds, the bath is the number one killer.  Scalding injuries are wholly avoidable via the installation of Thermostatic Mixing Valves (TMVs), to prevent hot bath water scalds in the home.

The Part G amendments will require the installation of Thermostatic Mixing Valves (TMVs) which have been recognised as effective anti-scald devices in new-build homes in England and Wales.  Indeed this legislation has already been in place in Scotland since 2006.
